Hi John, Well, a family member has tested positive but the rest of us are still negative. We are doing the best we can to isolate within our abode. We are doing our best to maximize ventilation. My question: What is the latest/best on what temperature or relative humidity minimizes transmission? We can set both of these on our thermostat. Thanks!

John, you write that Nuvaxovid, "... hasn’t been used outside of clinical trials yet." That is not 100% accurate. Millions of doses have been given in other nations, e. g. Australia. Just not here in the USA.

Forbes reports https://www.forbes.com/sites/alexknapp/2022/02/28/novavax-highlights-enduring-covid-immune-response-six-months-after-vaccination/) that Nuvaxovid has relatively long-lasting immunity, fading more slowly than mRNA vaccines (at least according to Novavax's own data).

I'm not sure that we can say confidently that the Novavax vaccine is causing myocarditis. The company, for its part, insists that the incidence doesn't exceed the background rate. Even if that's not the case, it may be important to look at when these cases occurred. More mingling after prolonged isolation might mean more viral infections, yielding more viral myocarditis. Given what we know about myocarditis and the mRNA vaccines, there's certainly good reason to be aware of this potential side effect, but not necessarily to consider its causal association with the Novavax vaccine definitively established. (The latter stance has been echoed by, e.g., Australia's regulatory authorities, who in their vaccine guidance state, "The risk of myocarditis/pericarditis after Novavax is not yet known. Cases were reported in a clinical trial, however this trial was underpowered to assess the risk of rare adverse events and a causal association with the vaccine was not confirmed." See: https://www.health.gov.au/sites/default/files/documents/2022/05/covid-19-vaccination-guidance-on-myocarditis-and-pericarditis-after-mrna-covid-19-vaccines.pdf.)

If the relationship is causal, though, the question is: what is the mechanism? Other non-mRNA vaccines don't seem to have the same issue, so what's going on? Interestingly, there was a paper published late last year (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34938983/) that suggested lipid nanoparticles, which are also used in the Novavax vaccine, might be implicated. The authors point specifically to a report of myocarditis following receipt of Novavax as one reason why the hypothesis merits some attention.

been telling ppl for a while Novavax is the same tech as Pertussis and HepB I remember the whole protein subunit thing seemed even more complicated than mRNA when I first read about it!

also, would love it if you would comment on the new paper re Omi breakthru immune boost or not depending on whether infx w/prior variants: https://t.co/sxI1HI7H2P
